Louis Campana, militant and Director, has met with Jana Sahajya activists during Janadesh walking and visited villages in the most deprived families empowered by Jana Sahajya to understand what were their current living conditions. Affected by the hardships they lived, Louis Campana decided with others that share the same vision of things, create the Shanti Orissa association to raise funds to Jana Sahajya to help these families to improve their living conditions.
Objective
To support tribal villages of Orissa (North-Eastern state of India) and Burkina Faso (Africa) towards their self-sufficiency according to Gandhi’s vision.
“Surakshya, the security of housing and dignified livelihood”
The Surakshya program, currently implemented in Orissa, concentrates its efforts on a group of 41 families living in Gohirapadar, because of their extreme poverty, to allow them to build their future village on a land situated 1 km from there, in Sukunabhata.
The objective of this pilot program is the creation of an eco-friendly model village where the villagers are self sufficient in terms of healthy living conditions, food, livelihood and access to their rights and entitlements. This model village could be replicated in the future for the inhabitants of other surrounding villages.
Shanti Orissa Burkina is in charge of fund-raising for this program.
The program is implemented by the organization “Jana Sahajya”, having a long experience of mobilization of tribal communities to claim their rights on land, water and forest.
Jana Sahajya will be supported technically by the organization Gram Vikas, to ensure good quality constructions and build their capacity to run similar programs in future on their own.
