History

The organisation of French law Gandhi International 2008 has been created on August 27th, 2006 in the place of Terre du Ciel in Bruailles (France) with the objective to organize in January, 2008, at the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the death of Gandhi, an international meeting of nonviolent activists in Wardha, near the last ashram of the Mahatma, in the center of India.

In October, 2007, some members participated in march Janadesh of 25 000 outcasts, rightsless, landless, Tribal and untouchable organized by the Indian movement Ekta Parishad on 340 km between Gwalior and New Delhi, to obtain the right for the land, an agrarian reform, the rights of the forest tribal populations.

After the meeting of Warha which gathered 150 persons in January, 2008, the participants decided to keep in touch to support the action of Ekta Parishad, and to contribute to give to the struggle for the access of the autochtonous populations to natural resources, an international dimension. The organisation changed its naming in "Gandhi International" and defined three objectives: research, international action in 2012, training (see the section "International mobilisation")

Gandhi International received the Maja Koene award on 2008 on behalf of the Foundation CESCI (India and Switzerland) for the broadcasting of the values of peace and nonviolence.
